A further 378 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the Republic, as well as one more death.

This brings the total number of cases here to 67,903 while the total number of deaths is now 1,979.

Of the 378 confirmed cases, 124 occurred in Dublin, 34 in Donegal, 23 in Louth, 19 in Cork and 19 in Limerick.

As of 2pm on Sunday, there were 249 people in hospital with confirmed COVID, 31 of whom were in ICU. There had been five additional hospitalisations in the previous 24 hours.

The 14-day incidence rate per 100,000 of the population in the 14 days up to midnight on November 14 was 126.9 nationally. However 12 counties were above this national average, with Donegal the worst affected, at 275.8 per 100,000, followed by Limerick (201.6) and Westmeath (170.1).

The counties with the lowest 14-day incidence rate were Wexford (49.4), Wicklow (69.5) and Leitrim (78).

Commenting on the figures, the Department of Health's chief medical officer, Dr Tony Holohan, pointed out that the average five-day daily case count is rising and is now over 400 per day.

"This is a worrying development which has persisted for the last few days. We are seeing a number of things which concern us. There are examples of small numbers of people congregating for social purposes and simply ignoring the important public health messages. They are putting our collective progress at risk," he said.

He noted that there have been a number of outbreaks which have been linked to funerals.

"We understand that this is a difficult time for families, but it is really important that we do everything we can to avoid the circumstances which promote transmission of the virus," he commented.

He also noted that there have been a number of outbreaks associated with workplace settings.

"As we head into a new working week, we need to stay at home other than for essential reasons and for personal exercise within 5km. Anyone who can work from home, should work from home," he insisted.
