  • The HSE has launched three new booklets and an online resource aimed at helping the parents of babies and young children.

The booklets cover the first five years of a child's life and include information on feeding, sleeping, playing and development. They also provide tips for parents on how to cope, including information on going back to work.

"While being a parent is a rewarding experience, every parent needs support at some time. The Caring for your Baby booklets and online resources provide up-to-date, accurate information and advice from a range of child health professionals. This information will help to empower parents to provide the best care for their children," commented Dr Phil Jennings, director of public health with the HSE.

He acknowledged that no booklet or website ‘can replace talking with someone who is trained to help', however he pointed out that the books and website contain useful contact details, ‘which will help parents to reach a wide range of professionals'.

The three booklets cover the periods birth to six months, six months to two years and two to five years. They are available here
