Privacy Statement and Cookie Policy

MedMedia Group, publishers of Irishhealthpro.com regard the privacy of registered members as our top priority, and make every effort to safeguard this at all times.

We outline below our policies on the personal data we collect from you and the cookies we use.

Irishhealthpro.com is a commercial website for health professionals brought to you by MedMedia Group. This company was established in 1991 and is a medical journal publishing and healthcare communications company with long-standing links to a number of health organisations. MedMedia Group developed and has been operating the popular consumer health website, Irishhealth.com since 2000.

Most of the content and services on this website are only available to health professionals who have chosen to register with us. Registration is not automatic and is moderated. We manually check each application to ensure that it is from a bona fide health professional. When logging on for the first time you will be asked to give your details. These will be kept until such a time as you wish to unsubscribe. Some details are compulsory for registration and some are optional. These will be clearly flagged in the registration area.

Registration is for the purposes of establishing a user community, monitoring our site usage and directing custom services for individuals and groups. It also helps us to understand how users avail of site content, what areas are popular, what pages are being viewed and to develop improved services. It is also used for accredited learning areas on the site where CPD points are issued after successfully completing modules.

For commercial purposes, registration provides necessary (anonymous) data on site usage for advertisers. This is crucial in order for us - like any media organisation - to fund the site and provide high quality services to users. Our data is not passed to or shared with third parties and any promotional mailshots or other communications originate with us and not the advertiser. You have the option to unsubscribe or opt out of mailings at any time.

In cases where registrations are being taken for a specific event or conference, this will be clear to users who sign up for that particular event and data will be used for this purpose only.

Educational modules undertaken by registered users online are strictly private, including certificates of completion, which are only passed on to the participant. Users are advised to these in their personal CPD file in case of possible audit.

Like other sites, we log users’ IP addresses on our servers and collect details of operating systems and browser types for the purposes of maintaining details on website traffic and also any problems that may be arising. Our website may collect certain data on site visits, even where a user is not registered, and this is standard practice (eg IP address, domain name, page visits, browser version, pages visited). Apart from improving the user experience, this also allows us to protect against unauthorised access or use, copying etc.

What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files that may be placed on your computer or mobile device the first time you visit. This is standard practice and helps sites to give you an improved visit experience. For example, if the site ‘remembers’ that you have visited previously, this saves you having to log in every time you visit. Cookies don’t identify personalised information such as that on your registration form, nor do they in any way transmit information about your computer or phone, but collect generic, low-level information from your device to help us improve your experience, and trouble-shoot in the event that you encounter a difficulty using the site.

Cookies are gathered for various reasons:

Technical – so that you don’t have to keep logging in

Monitoring – Website performance. Tracking of general activity.

Customisation – to customise individual user experience in relation to content and what ‘look’ you want the website to have.

Integration – We may integrate web service with third party sites to allow users to share certain content with others. We will not share any personally identifiable information with third party sties, now or ever. Also, where we have advertising, this may come to us via an agency and they will need to track how many people have clicked on a particular ad. This tracking is always anonymised.

If you choose to ‘block’ cookies, this may cause certain advanced features such as auto-login and site customisation to be unavailable.

Data

The data collected from you is not shared with third parties. Any Irishhealthpro.com emails, newsletters, promotional mailers, notifications of new services, events etc., are sent directly by us. You can unsubscribe at any time, either fully or from particular services. Every effort is made to ensure that the site is secure and we review this periodically.

However, as is the case with all websites that there is no such thing as 100% guaranteed security, but we do make every effort possible to protect data on the site and transmitted to and from the site. To enhance this security, we strongly recommend that you set a secure password, that you change this password periodically and that you do not share your username and password with other people. If you log onto Irishhealthpro.com from a machine that you do not have secure access to (eg. in an internet café) we recommend that you always ‘log out’ when your session is complete.

MedMedia Group strives at all times to operate in full compliance with the Data Protection Acts, 1998 & 2003, and our policy is to cooperate fully and promptly with any request from the Data Protection Commissioner regarding protection and safeguarding of user data.
