  • A charity which works to grant the wishes of children in Ireland who are living with life-threatening conditions is hoping to raise €100,000 on April 16 as part a major fundraiser.

Make-A-Wish Ireland aims to grant wishes for seriously ill children aged between three and 17 years. As part of its Wish Band Day fundraiser on April 16, 1,000 volunteers around the country will be selling wrist bands at a cost of €2 each. All money raised will go directly towards granting wishes for sick children.

"Our founding principle no matter what is to grant the wish of every eligible child. We are appealing for the public's support on Wish Band Day as we do not receive any government funding. We are so grateful for your continuous support without which we could not grant these wishes," commented Make-A-Wish CEO, Susan O'Dwyer.

The organisation works closely with all of the country's hospitals that provide care to sick children. Since its establishment in Ireland in 1992, wishes have been granted to over 1,700 children.

Recent wishes granted include ‘I wish to be a vet' - Annie, aged 11, and ‘I wish to have a 12th birthday party' - Aimee, aged 12.

Aside from purchasing a wrist band, people can make a one-off €2 donation to Make-a-Wish by texting WISHES to 50300. For more information on the organisation, click here
