One of the country's best known private hospitals, Mount Carmel in Dublin, is to close with the potential loss of 300 jobs.

The High Court appointed liquidators to the hospital today after the hospital said it was insolvent and unable to pay its debts.

Maternity patients due to be accommodated at the hospital in the coming days will be treated there, whereas those booked further ahead will have to go to other hospitals in Dublin.
