  • An online programme aimed at helping people to control their stress levels is being made available by the HSE this month.

The Stress Control online programme helps people to deal with stress and learn skills to support their mental wellbeing. It is made up of six online sessions, each lasting 90 minutes, and it is free of charge.

This is the fourth time the programme has been made available by the HSE and since last April, over 10,000 Irish people have participated in it.

"As we all continue to deal with the everyday challenges presented to us, being able to manage anxiety and build resilience are key skills to have. This Stress Control programme contains lots of useful and practical ways to manage and cope with feelings of stress and depression. It has also been shown to improve our mental health and wellbeing," explained HSE senior clinical psychologist, Dr Christina Corbett.

Each 90-minute session will cover a different topic. These include 'what is stress?', 'controlling your thoughts' and 'controlling panicky feelings'.

The sessions will be broadcast live every Monday and Thursday during September, starting on Monday, September 7, at 8.30pm. All sessions will then be available for 48 hours after the first broadcast.

Participants are encouraged to watch all sessions, but they can also join at any stage during one or more sessions.

The programme is hosted by HSE Health and Wellbeing and is narrated by Dr Jim White, a consultant clinical psychologist and internationally recognised expert in stress management.
