Fianna Fail Senator Mark Daly's Seanad motion calling for the annulment of a law on organ donation and transplantation has been defeated.

The motion was defeated today on the casting vote of the Cathaoirleach of the Seanad.

The motion called for the annulment of a statutory instrument passed by the Government last year which implemented an EU directive on organ donation and transplantation.

The debate on the legislation surrounded the organisation of organ donation and transplant services under the new law.
