  • Six more people with COVID-19 have died in the Republic, bringing the total number of deaths here to 1,726.

A further five cases of the virus have also been confirmed, bringing the total number of cases here to 25,396.

As of midnight on June 21, 92% of all confirmed cases were estimated to have recovered from the virus.

"Through our collective action, we have moved in the right direction in our fight against widespread community transmission of COVID-19. As we go forward, the behaviour and progression of this disease is in all of our hands," commented the Department of Health's chief medical officer, Dr Tony Holohan.

He emphasised that "every single one of us" has the ability to reduce the impact the virus might have on vulnerable people and those most at risk.

"You can do this by keeping a physical distance from others, or wearing a face covering when in busy public places like shops and public transport, and by continuing to keep your number of daily contacts as low as possible," Dr Holohan added.

Phase 2 of the Government's plan for reopening society and business is now in place. For more information on this, click here.
