  • Four-year-old Gavin Glynn has died after fighting ‘the hardest fight anyone could imagine', his parents have said.

The little boy from Wicklow had been battling a rare form of cancer known as Embryonal Rhabdomyosarcoma since October 2011.

He had undergone treatment in Ireland, Switzerland and Holland for the disease, however his parents were told earlier this year that he had just months to live. In response to this, they decided to travel to Texas in the US for a new treatment known as HIPEC.

They launched the ‘My Boy' fundraising campaign and in just one week, they managed to raise €350,000 to cover the cost of treatment and travel.

However, Gavin lost his battle last night. He was surrounded by his parents, John and Jayne Glynn, his brother Conor and his sister Lucy.

In a statement, the family said ‘rest in peace our beautiful baby. You fought the hardest fight anyone could imagine and all the way to the end. You are and will always be our Superman. Gavin passed very peacefully tonight with Conor, Lucy myself and Jayne holding hands on our couch at home. Fly high buddy we all love you so much xxxx.'
