  • Wide variations in mortality rates among hosital patients for various conditions have been revealed in a new report.

    The report, 'Health Quality Indicators in the Irish Health System', shows major differences between hospitals in terms of death rates from heart attacks, stroke and other conditions, with the stroke death rate for patients up to four times higher in some hospitals than in others, according to a report in the Sunday Business Post.

    The Department of Health report, which does not name individual hospitals, is expected to be officially published today.
